One adult oyster can filter more than 90 liters of water per day. That's why New Yorkers have set a goal to grow and stock 1 billion oysters in the bay by 2035. There are already almost 30 million of them there - thanks to schoolchildren and restaurateurs. Restaurants donate used oyster shells, and schoolchildren grow oyster embryos in them.
