Siri could tap into OpenAI, users could subscribe directly through iPhones, and it looked like the beginning of a long-term alliance. Now, according to Reuters, OpenAI is exploring legal action against Apple. The problem: OpenAI expected deep integration across Apple’s ecosystem and millions of new users. Instead, ChatGPT reportedly remained buried inside the system, while negotiations over broader access went nowhere. What really changed everything is Apple’s new strategy. The company is now testing integrations with Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, turning Apple Intelligence into a multi-model AI platform instead of relying heavily on OpenAI. That means OpenAI could go from Apple’s flagship AI partner… to just another option in the menu. OpenAI probably won’t leave the iPhone ecosystem entirely, the user base is too massive.
