Jokes do not exist in some magical vacuum outside of society- rape jokes reinforce dangerous myths about rape perpetrators and victims, dismiss and trivialize the experiences of rape victims, and if you are joking with a rapist and don't realize it, they interpret is as condoning their behavior.
