HOW TO SPOT SUSPICIOUS CLIENTS Before you respond to any invite as a $0-earning freelancer, especially if you haven’t applied to the job, look for these red flags: The client is new with no hiring history. The client registered recently but has already hired and paid many freelancers. You receive an offer without any prior conversation. The client wants to communicate outside Upwork. They send external links or .exe files. The client is new with no hiring history and has posted multiple similar jobs. BE CAREFUL NOT EVERY INVITE IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY This doesn’t mean every invite to a new freelancer is a scam. But if you’re getting messages without spending Connects, take a moment to evaluate who’s contacting you and why.
