🛕What happens at Besakih Temple?
🌕 It is now the site of the Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh (or assembly of the gods) ceremony, which is considered one of the most significant religious events. It is held every year for 21 days, starting on the full moon of the tenth month of the Balinese calendar.
🌄 During this period, each day a ritual with its own name and meaning takes place in the temple. Balinese believe that on these days all the gods and goddesses descend from the sacred Mount Agung to the Besakih temple to bless and bestow gifts on the people. Hindu people from all over Bali and other regions of Indonesia tend to be at the Besakih Temple during the ceremony.
🙏 For the Balinese, the ceremony is an important way to engage with their religious and cultural heritage, as well as to express their gratitude and devotion to the deities.
❗️ Agung Volcano is closed to climbing for the duration of the ceremony. This year, the mountain will be inaccessible from April 6 to May 3.
