Jarang-jarang aku nasihatkan orang yang menghadapi "toxic workplace" untuk berpindah. Ia cuma nasihat yang sesuai sekiranya segala ikhtiar lain sudah habis diusahakan atau dalam kata lain, "as last resort". Kenapa? Satu, tiada jaminan pun tempat baru tu tidak akan ada isu yang sama. Kedua, kadang level of toxicity yang kita hadapi tu level boleh urus sebenarnya, tetapi kita sahaja yang terlalu takut untuk melawan. Dan ketiga, sifat suka lari dari masalah akan menyulitkan segala urusan hidup. You will be forever running throughout your whole life. Melawan tu ada seni. Dan melawan tu bukan bermaksud menengking orang, membuat apa apa "grand gesture" untuk menunjukkan rebellion. Melawan tu adakalanya halus. Dan dalam banyak kes, melawan itu adalah menawarkan situasi win-win. Make peace with the fact that: a) Not everything yang pentadbir kau buat, kau akan suka. Near impossible. And unless they give you solid reasons not to, please maintain a good relationship with your admins. b) Sometimes you can't get along with ALL of your colleagues, and some of them be hating for no reason pun. Let go. c) People are not mind readers. If you have better ideas for your school, VOICE.IT.OUT. Don't so easily assume "ahh no one's gonna listen to it anyway". Kadang kau kena buktikan dulu baru orang percaya. Atau kena gerak dulu sorang-sorang, guna duit sendiri dahulu. Some people are only convinced when results start to show. Reality of life. d) and finally, make peace with the fact that at times, you gotta do things solo. And that you can be okay with that. Memang seronok buat apa-apa ada geng, tapi kalau takde pun, kasi onz je. Without you realizing you may be the spark that kickstart positive change at school. Instead of running away from toxic culture, be the one changing it. I agree it's not applicable for every single case, but give it a shot first before throwing in the towel.
