*Fellow Travelers of the Distant Path* This collection presents a curated selection of works by Russian and Iranian artists, representing a synthesis of shared perspectives on the horse. This magnificent creature has historically served as a companion and partner to humankind for centuries. Positioned at the nexus of myth and reality, the horse has perpetually occupied a significant place within the artistic consciousness of both Eastern and Northern cultures, embodying both power and grace, and reflecting the human spirit. Within Persia, one of humanity’s most ancient civilizations, the iconography of the horse signifies its long-standing presence and profound importance in ritualistic practices and as a symbol of authority. From the monumental reliefs of Persepolis and ancient inscriptions to the sculpted representations of equestrians and the majestic imagery of commanders, the horse has been an intrinsic element of Iran’s cultural and artistic heritage. The epic “Shahnameh” portrays the horse as an emblem of loyalty, valor, and shared destiny, exemplified by Rostam’s Rakhsh, a steadfast ally and fated companion to Iran’s legendary hero in the throes of battle. Persian miniature paintings depict the horse with an aesthetic elegance and symbolic resonance, narrating themes of nobility, swiftness, and strength. The flourishing era of Shah Abbas Safavi witnessed the grandeur of equestrian displays in the sport of polo. Complementing these historical accounts, the spiritual representations of horses in sophisticated Persian miniatures elevate the equine image to a transcendent and poetic dimension. Conversely, Russian culture, a vast civilization steeped in mythology, art, and literature, venerates the horse as an embodiment of fortitude and bravery. This is evident from the heroic depictions of Bogatyr warriors to the pictorial representations of expansive icy landscapes and folk equestrian scenes. In Russia, the horse is associated with the sagas of the valiant Bogatyrs, symbolizing endurance and the untamed spirit. These “Fellow Travelers of the Distant Path,” transcending geographical and cultural frontiers, convene in this digital forum to convey a fundamental message: The horse, perhaps more than any other symbol, serves as a harbinger of peace. Its movement signifies progress and the vital flow of life. Its very essence embodies vitality, extending an invitation to a global community where amity and mutual understanding surmount geopolitical divisions. The unceasing gallop of horses symbolizes the overcoming of challenges and the propagation of peace. It is hoped that the “horse of peace” will extend its influence across all nations and territories.
