Regarding #Telegram, too, a lot of people think it is open source, but that's not true. Only the client-side of Telegram is open source, but the server is proprietary. A better alternative, for both security and freedom is https://Signal.org@SignalApp#Signal

A small tip about #Telegram: When you change your profile picture, the older picture doesn't get deleted, and everyone who clicks your user profile picture will be able to see all your past pictures that you ever selected. You have to delete the older pictures to prevent this.
