Forwarded to me: DC deployment is done under Title 32 Section 502F because DC is a district and DC NG is already under direct authority on President. This section allows troops to do policing as it does not fall under Posse Comitatus Act 1878 which prohibits military from doing policing on citizens. But Trump sent 800 active duty Marines into LA too - I think that would require Insurrection Act (1807, predating Posse Comitatus). I think the answer is that troops aren't doing policing or law enforcement directly. They are there to support ICE, Border Patrol, DEA, ATF with things like temp housing, mobile food prep, etc. Reminder that Posse Comitatus applies to citizens - a detail, but I think troops could apprehend non-citizens without violating. I still think Insurrection Act was invoked at some point - somehow they kept it under wraps or mainstream media and lefty pols would have been screaming.
