The Limpopo River rises in South Africa and flows generally eastward through Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique to the Indian Ocean. The river is approximately 1,750 kilometers (1,087 miles) long. Thanks to the fairy tale Doctor Aybolit by Kornei Chukovsky, Russians learn the name of the river in their early childhood.
