Howick Falls is a spectacular waterfall located in the town of Howick, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Standing approximately 95 meters (310 feet) tall, the waterfall is situated on the Umgeni River. According to South African folklore, the pool at the base of the falls is believed to be home to the Inkanyamba—a giant, serpent-like creature. The legend of the Inkanyamba originates from the rich oral traditions of the Zulu and Xhosa peoples. The word "Inkanyamba" comes from their languages and is often translated as “the one who causes storms” or “the one who attracts lightning.” It is said that anyone who disturbs the Inkanyamba’s slumber risks unleashing its fury in the form of hurricanes, torrential rains, and violent storms. #SouthAfrica#nature#myths
