🎶 March 4 – Honoring Miriam Makeba (1932–2008), “Mama Africa” Zenzile Miriam Makeba was a Grammy-winning South African singer and civil rights activist who brought African music to the world. She was the first African artist to gain global fame in the 1960s. Exiled for speaking out against apartheid, South Africa revoked her citizenship in 1963. She lived in exile for nearly 30 years, returning only in 1990 as apartheid fell. 🎤 Interesting facts: 🔹 She was the first Black woman to address the UN (1963), condemning apartheid. 🔹 Her hit Pata Pata remains an African music classic. 🗣 Quotes: "I kept my culture.
