Belgrade, 19 January 2026 – Journalist, author, and Director General of the Center for Geostrategic Studies in Belgrade, Dragana Trifković, has submitted an official letter to members of the United States Congress and Senate, as well as to the U.S. State Department, drawing attention to serious violations of fundamental human rights within the European Union related to the abuse of the Schengen Information System (SIS). The letter states that in April 2025, Dragana Trifković was deported from Vienna Airport to Belgrade after Austrian border police verbally informed her that her name had been entered into the SIS at the request of Greece, with an alleged three‑year ban on entering the Schengen Area. To this day, she notes, she has not received any written decision, legal explanation, or information on available legal remedies from the competent Greek authorities. Following the deportation, Trifković formally contacted the Greek police, the Ministry for Citizen Protection, and the Ombudsman of the Hellenic Republic, requesting clarification of the legal basis for the SIS entry and protection of her procedural rights. None of these institutions, she states, has provided a response. “Administrative silence in this case has the effect of a final decision, but without any of the procedural guarantees required by national law, EU law, and the European Convention on Human Rights,” the letter states. https://geostrategy.rs/sr/dragana-trifkovic-submits-request-to-u-s-institutions-regarding-the-abuse-of-the-schengen-information-system/
