Erasmus, bishop of Formia, under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian, was beaten in Campania with garnished rods of lead, then he was immersed in resin, sulfur, liquefied lead, boiling pitch, wax and oil, but he came out safe and sound. For this miracle many converted to the faith of Christ. But he was taken back to prison and loaded with very heavy iron chains, he was miraculously freed from them by an Angel. Then tortured in Formia by order of Maximian with various other tortures, and dressed in a red-hot copper tunic, with divine help he also overcame these torments. Finally, after having confirmed in the faith and converted to it very many, he returned the palm of a glorious martyrdom on the 2nd of June 303.
