While Paul and Barnabas attended to the service of the Lord in the Church of Antioch fasting and praying together with the other prophets and doctors, the Holy Spirit said: “Separate me Saul and Barnabas, for the work whereunto I have taken them.”. Then, after fasting and praying, imposed their hands and they took their live. They therefore went to Seleucia, and from there to Cyprus; and then they crossed many cities and regions preaching the Gospel with great usefulness of the listeners. At the end, Barnabas, leaving Paul, he embarked for Cyprus together with John nicknamed Mark; and from there (in Salamis) toward the seventh year of Nero, the 11th of June 61 AD ca, to the glory of the apostolic ministry he added the crown of martyrdom. Under the emperor Zeno, his body was discovered in the island of Cyprus; and on his chest was the Gospel of Matthew, transcribed with the hand of Barnabas. To St. Barnabas was attributed a letter very praised by many holy Fathers. By tradition, he is said founder of the Church of Milan.
