SAINT SILVERIUS, POPE AND MARTYR Silverius, son of pope St. Hormisdas who was married before entering the Orders, was born toward 480 near Frosinone (some sources indicate Ceccano) in Campania, Italy. To the death of pope St. Agapitus I, taken place in Constantinople the 22nd of April 536, he was already sub-deacon of the Church of Rome. He was created Pontiff right after St. Agapitus, the 8th of June 536: his doctrine and sanctity shone in persecuting the heretics, and his fortitude revealed itself in maintaining the judgement of St. Agapitus.
