and if your lawn isn't native grass it honestly doesn't matter. mowing your lawn: 1. destroys cover, food sources and habitat for both native and exotic fauna - yes, native pollinators can feed off exotic plants. yes, native animals (including bugs) can live in exotic stuff. 2. cuts down and kills whatever little trees and shrubs are trying to grow in your lawn - sometimes natives 3. some shit about bees idk As birds/bugs/whatever hang out in an area, they drop seeds for all manner of plants. yeah, some bugs distribute seed! what good is a lawn? well fuck, if you're using it, good for you actually, keep up the good work maintaining it. but for most people they're useless, an obsolete and totally forgotten flex "look at me, I have so much surplus that I can afford to actively suppress the utility of this land" so anyway, point is, growing your lawn for 30 years without a mow is usually an OK thing to do, as it's almost always good for the environment in the long run - and saves you from having to deal with the shit, and your time is precious
