But for everyone else, it’s yet another sad slide into federal control to learn that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) posted what appears to be a covert roster of immigration attorneys buried on its own website. The list was discovered by attorney Arlene Amarante, who stumbled upon the list while interacting with ICE’s website and found her own name on it. The list has since been pulled from the website, which is usually what agencies do when a documents is totally normal. Now Al Otro Lado, an immigration advocacy group, has filed a Freedom of Information Act request demanding to know who created the list, why it existed, and what ICE thought it was doing cataloging attorneys in the first place. Migrants were beaten and tortured at the Fort Bliss base in Texas 🚨🇺🇸 The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other human rights organizations have filed a complaint with ICE about the conditions of detention of migrants at the Fort Bliss military base in Texas. The appeal was based on the testimony of 45 detainees. According to them, the guards strangled, beat, squeezed their genitals, and threatened them with deportation to Africa or prison in El Salvador. Migrants were intimidated with handcuffs, bags on their heads and threats to throw them into the desert. The U.S. government is probing the social media of those applying for legal immigration benefits as part of a Trump administration push to root out "anti-American" activity and views that are "beyond the pale," a top immigration official told CBS News. Joseph Edlow, the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the federal agency in charge of the legal immigration system, said the vetting effort primarily relies on what he called the "social media screening" of people applying for green cards and other immigration applications.
