Gardaí successfully obtained a court order to demand x.com hand over three days of data and content associated with Gript Media's X account including DMs and draft posts after one of their journalists posted some footage of the police brutality at the protest against asylum seekers being accommodated in Newtownmountkennedy last April. x.com refused to hand over the content and notified Gript. RollingNews editor, Eamonn Farrell has previously told Newstalk that he is concerned that the reliance on photojournalists for evidence against protesters will escalate the hostility towards journalists at protests. RTÉ have said that they provided all their footage of the protest in Coolock last July to gardaí under a court order. Independent journalist Philip Dwyer was convicted last week for refusing to comply with a Garda order to leave the area while reporting on the same protest. It's unknown if any RTÉ journalists were ordered to leave the area. 🔗gript.com
