A huge crowd turned out at a public meeting in Ballaghaderreen against plans for 47 modular homes beside Oakwod Private Nursing Home to house 206 Ukrainians. More than 400 objections have been lodged with Roscommon County Council for the proposed site made up of 18 three bedroom units and 29 two bedroom units. Local Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane and Cllr Michael Mulligan criticised the Dept of Integration over the plan and advised people on delivering the submissions. Local businessman Micheál Frain told the Roscommon Herald that “Ballaghaderreen has been walked on”. Extra services were promised in 2017 when Syrian refugees arrived in the town. “It’s seven years down the line, no extra services have come to Ballaghaderreen, it’s a simple as that.” RTÉ reported on Friday that modular homes for Ukrainians cost an average of €407,500 per unit. 👉🏻join Late Stage Ireland
