A facebook user has been warning the public about members of the pickpocketing community operating around Dublin after spotting them repeatedly around the Luas stop on Abbey St, the Ha'penny Bridge and near the pedestrian crossings at the junction of Dame St and George's St. CSO stats revealed a 42pc hike in reported pickpocketing incidents last year with one garda saying it's now an hourly occurrence in a report about a lady who had her wallet stolen twice in March. But despite Dublin Bus now issuing onboard warnings due to a spate of pensioners getting their payments stolen while traveling home from the post office, it's rare to read about any arrests with Dublin City Council's focus seemingly on "far-right elements". One asylum seeker got a suspended sentence last November for pickpocketing two women and a Romanian pickpocket got two years last October for stealing €9,700. He had prior convictions for theft in the UK, Austria & Italy.
