This week, St Mary’s Primary School on Dorset St in Dublin was being celebrated for becoming the first school to be divested from the patronage of the Catholic Church to the Educate Together NGO. There’s been a big drive to divest more, but a majority of parents of the children in any school have to agree to it. This has hindered the process as a majority of Irish parents, even where they are not interested in a Catholic ethos, still prefer their children to attend a Catholic school rather than be subjected to the ethos of an Educate Together one. In 2018, RTÉ ran the report above about how at least 90% of the pupils in St. Mary’s are now foreign. According to the CSO, just 7% of local residents described themselves as ‘white Irish’. This is how they solve their problem. 👉🏻join Late Stage Ireland
