Thorton Hall has 150 acres of grounds and was originally purchased by the State in 2004 for €30 million to build a new super prison but that plan is now shelved. Meanwhile overcrowding in Irish prisons has been described as a "ticking time bomb", according to the Prison Officers Association. Patrick Quinlan is running the the EU election for Dublin and the local elections for Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart.
