Nail biting is called Onychophagia It's a common stress-related or nervous habit in children & adults. It involves biting off the nail plate, & sometimes the soft tissues of the nail bed & the cuticle as well. Roughly half of children between 10 & 18 bite their nails, but most stop on their own by age 30.
