❗️Bahrain revises UN draft on Strait of Hormuz Bahrain has distributed an updated draft resolution at the UNSC aimed at safeguarding commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, keeping wording that allows “all necessary means” but removing a direct reference to binding enforcement measures. Bahrain’s earlier draft had specifically cited Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which permits the Security Council to authorize actions ranging from sanctions to military intervention. The revised version seen by Reuters, which diplomats say remains under discussion, omits the Chapter VII reference but preserves similar language. It would permit states, acting independently or via voluntary multinational naval coalitions, to use “all necessary means commensurate with the circumstances” in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman. The draft also urges countries that depend on commercial shipping routes through the strait to coordinate defensive measures, including escorting merchant vessels.
