🗺Italy🇮🇹 Ortigia (Italian: Ortigia, Sicilian: Ortìggia) is an island in the Ionian Sea, in the bay off the eastern coast of Sicily. In ancient times, the island was home to the city-state of Syracuse, one of the largest and richest on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Since the late 19th century, the modern city of Syracuse has been connected to the island by two bridges.
