Vietnam🇻🇳 On the Vietnamese coast, you can often see strange round baskets that are not used for collecting fruits but are floating on them on the sea. 🧺 In fact, Vietnamese people used to have quite ordinary boats of elongated shape. But everything changed when the country became a French colony. The new authorities started imposing high taxes on all fishermen and boat owners. 🎣🚣‍♂️ However, the locals proved to be smarter: they started weaving round vessels out of bamboo. According to legend, fishermen didn't have to pay anything for such boats, as they claimed that it was not a boat at all, but... a big basket. Thus, the tradition of creating round "thung chai" was born. #Vietnam @voyage
