🇮🇳Indian Airlines Warn of Imminent Shutdown The Federation of Indian Airlines — representing IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet — has written to India's Civil Aviation Ministry warning that carriers are on the verge of suspending operations due to unsustainable fuel costs. The group is seeking a return to pandemic-era price caps on aviation turbine fuel and a reduction or deferral of taxes. Despite India producing more jet fuel than it consumes, prices are set on an import-parity basis — benchmarked against Persian Gulf imports including notional freight, insurance, and customs costs — leaving Indian carriers paying significantly more than counterparts in Thailand, Dubai, Malaysia, and Singapore. In early April, a record fuel price hike for domestic flights was rolled back within hours, but structural costs remain elevated. Speculation is growing that the Modi government may raise fuel prices once state election voting concludes. If implemented, further price increases would intensify pressure on an industry already warning of operational collapse. #India @asianomics
