Pakistan is planning to join the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), with Russia supporting a potential linkage between the route and Gwadar Port as both countries expand economic and strategic cooperation under a new framework extending to 2030. The development was shared by Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari during a webinar on Pakistan–Russia relations, where he highlighted growing engagement between the two countries over the past two decades. The INSTC is a 7,200-kilometre multimodal trade network connecting Asia, the Middle East, and Europe through sea, rail, and road routes, aimed at reducing transport time and costs for international cargo movement. Officials said the proposed linkage with Gwadar Port could further integrate Pakistan into major global trade corridors, complementing broader initiatives like China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
