It's hard to explain to the younger Gen Z or older Gen Alpha kids who were born into hell just how much even as recently as the 1990's and 2000's America was a safe, prosperous, middle class, majority White Christian country. We were born into the zenith of civilization before the down trend, where you never had to worry about ticks give you a meat allergy, rape gangs, organized human trafficking etc even after 9/11 and the Iraq War kicked off. Sometimes even I with my training and experience feel underprepared for the return to the jungle we are undergoing. All the assumptions of safety and upward living standards are gone. It is hard to put into words. It is like Morgoth's analysis of Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men, where a primordial danger in the first book is ever present and a force of nature. Eventually the west is tamed and prosperity ensues. By the time of No Country we see this primordial force of nature unrestrained once more as it tears at the thin veneer of civilization and reasserts itself. The law men still exist but are unable to tame such a force which they have no experience dealing with. We are not at risk of losing our nice, high trust society. We have lost it. We are fighting to restrain it once more. To be the Katechon.
