Originally published in 2021, the updated strategy now emphasizes the protection against adversarial uses of AI, including disinformation campaigns. In light of recent events, such as deepfake videos targeting politicians and AI-generated disinformation, NATO's strategy includes measures to safeguard against these threats. The updated strategy aims to ensure that AI-enabled disinformation does not affect election outcomes or sow division within the alliance. NATO’s revised strategy also focuses on ensuring responsible AI use within the military.
