Today we honor Italian designer Gae Aulenti (1927–2012). A graduate of Politecnico di Milano, she opened her own studio after working with Franco. Aulenti masterfully blended traditional Italian design with modern forms and bold colors. She created iconic furniture like the Gae Aulenti lamp (Artemide), table (Knoll), and chair (Cassina). Her architectural impact includes the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and Milan’s Pavilion of Modern Art. Honored with the Compasso d’Oro (1979) and Pritzker Prize (1992), her legacy remains central to Italian design.
