Julia Garner confirmed she’ll star in Madonna’s biopic in a recent W Magazine interview: “I can’t reveal much, but yes, things are moving forward.” Announced in 2020, the film was paused in 2023 due to Madonna’s Celebration tour. In summer 2024, she teased screenplay pages online with the working title: Who’s That Girl? Casting included a tough “bootcamp” with vocal and choreography training. Garner said, “I wasn’t a dancer. I had to learn to move, sing with Madonna, and perform in front of her. It was a real challenge.” Diablo Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson started the script; others later joined. Madonna, deeply involved, shared her vision: “I want to show my journey—the path of someone searching for their place in this world.” Insiders say the project may expand: alongside the film, talks are underway for a limited Netflix series, possibly by the Stranger Things team.
