Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod discussed cooperation between the two countries in the UN Security Council and BRICS. This was reported on the website of the diplomatic department. “The main directions for further building up bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation, including the expansion of trade, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian cooperation, were thoroughly reviewed. The mutual focus of Moscow and Addis Ababa on deepening political dialogue and close coordination of approaches in the UN and BRICS, including in in the context of the Russian chairmanship in the association,” the message says. It is noted that during the meeting a confidential exchange of views took place on issues of interaction in the UN and other international organizations. In addition, conflicts on the African continent were discussed, with an emphasis on the situation in the Horn of Africa. The BRICS Council of Foreign Ministers is taking place in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10-11. This is the first meeting of the heads of the “ten” foreign affairs agencies after the expansion of the association.
