Stephanie Kwolek discovered Kevlar by accident. While working on lightweight fibers for tires at DuPont, she created a solution that looked unusual and weak. Instead of throwing it out, she tested it—and it produced fibers five times stronger than steel. That "failed" experiment became Kevlar, the material used in bulletproof vests and body armor.
