The oldest version of Sleeping Beauty is called "Sun, Moon, and Talia," written in the 1600s by Giambattista Basile. Talia pricks her finger on a flax splinter and falls into a deep sleep. A king finds her and, thinking she is dead, rapes her. She becomes pregnant and gives birth to twins while still asleep. One child sucks the splinter from her finger, and she wakes up.
