This week I spoke with Garland Nixon about the prospects for war on Iran. Is it possible that the imperialists can find a way to dig themselves out of the hole they are in? What do we mean when we say they are ‘damned if they do and damned if the don’t’? And what does the deepening economic crisis of capitalism have to do with their reckless war drive in the middle east, Ukraine and elsewhere? We also discussed the return to open imperialist narratives by mouthpieces for the system like Marco Rubio. What exactly is he referring to when he waxes lyrical about the greatness of ‘500 years of western civilisation’? Clearly his masters would like to turn back the clock to their days of glorious global domination – but can they? What was the significant factor which led to western Europeans lording it almost unchallenged over the populations of Africa, Asia and Latin America? And what prevents the return of those days?
