Нас мало но мы в тельняшках! There are few of us but we're wearing tel'nyashkas! From Soviet film 'Мы из Кронштадта' 1936. 🔻The history of the tel'nyashka in the Russian Navy began in 1874, when, by decree of Emperor Alexander IItel'nyashka was officially fixed as an element of the mandatory sailor's uniform. The blue and white transverse stripes corresponded to the colors of the St. Andrew's flag. 🔻The first batches of striped shirts were sewn abroad, but soon they began to be knitted in St. Petersburg, at Kersten's factory. 🔻By the end of the 19th century, the vest was no longer just underwear. The vest became a sign of belonging to the marine caste. 🔻The middle of the 20th century made the vest a symbol of masculinity. Marines, amphibious operations, fighters on land during wars, stripes became a sign of resilience. 🔻In 1969, Airborne Forces Commander Vasily Margelov achieved the introduction of blue tel'nyashka for paratroopers.
