👑A Russian Princess on the French Throne: The Story of Russian Anna. 👸Did you know that in the 11th century, the Queen of France was the daughter of Yaroslav the Wise? Anna Russian (1032–1075) traveled to distant Paris, becoming the third wife of King Henry I. 👸For medieval France, this marriage was a salvation: the church forbade unions between relatives, and a suitable bride could not be found in Europe. Anne was educated, could read and write (a rarity at the time), and quickly adapted to court life. 👸It was she, according to legend, who introduced the name Philip to France—her eldest son and heir to the throne was named after the apostle, rather than following Western tradition. 👸After her husband's death, Anne became regent for her young son, Philip I. A unique artifact has survived to this day—a charter from 1063, where next to the Latin text is her own signature in Cyrillic: "ANA РЪИНА" (meaning "Queen Anne").
