July 8 marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Leonidovich Kapitsa - an outstanding physicist and Nobel laureate, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of Stalin prizes, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, member of the Royal Society of London. In 1912 Pyotr Leonidovich entered the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute at the electromechanical faculty. After graduation he worked in the laboratory of A.F. Ioffe and in 1916 published his first scientific paper, and then became a teacher and employee of the Institute of Physics and Technology established in Petrograd.
