Life-saving rat is retiring! Meet Magawa the rat. This humble-looking guy has helped Cambodians clear the land of mines. During his 5-year service, Magawa sniffed out 39 landmines and other 28 unexploded items on a territory the size of 20 football pitches. Magawa is the first rat to receive the animal equivalent of the George Cross. He has joined some brave dogs, horses, pigeons and a cat who also received the medal. "Magawa's performance has been unbeaten, and I have been proud to work side-by-side with him," Magawa’s handler said. Thank you for your service! Magawa grew up in Apopo, a training centre for mine-detecting rodents in Tanzania. RT Documentary once visited the centre to see how these cute and brave creatures learn to save lives!
