At the beginning, the Afghan people were elated to see the American troops as they had high hopes to finally be rid of terrorists. However, soon the situation started to change. The collateral damage of the American presence was immense. The bombs destroyed schools and hospitals, and anti-Taliban air raids killed civilians in the process.
