‘On some primal level I felt we were aimed at’ RT Documentary's Aleksey Kulik shares his experience in the run-up to RT Documentary's 10th anniversary. He is one of many RT Documentary filmmakers who have chilling stories about their narrow escape on the job. In 2014, the team was filming a documentary about Ukraine caught up in the anti-government conflict. The plan was to drive through an utterly empty suburb and shoot abandoned apartment buildings with windows broken after shelling. Aleksey felt someone was aiming their guns at them. "To the right of our vehicle, two shadows dashed behind the trees, about 50 metres away. I stopped and said with all the calm I could muster, 'Sit still, don't move'. I slowly open the door, take the vest off, raise it above my head and loudly and distinctly utter in the air, "Don't shoot. Press. Television. Don't shoot." He managed to communicate his way out of this dire situation, and the crew was saved. Follow: https://t.me/rtdocumentary
