‘He would kill in the blink of an eye. I felt that perfectly' Our filmmaker Lidia Vasilevskaya was held at gunpoint by drug lord Pablo Escobar's hitman. He demonstrated how he used to kill people. 'When we asked Popeye to explain how he killed, and he pointed his gun at me, it was incredibly scary. I knew the gun was fake, and he wouldn't fire it, but I was still paralysed by fear. He had this scary, piercing and empty look. He would kill in the blink of an eye. I felt that perfectly,' Lidia recalls. Jhon Jairo Velásquez Vásquez, known as Popeye, confessed to killing some 300 people and being involved in the murder of 3,000 more. He spent 24 years in prison and shot to internet fame after his release in 2014. He had a popular YouTube channel and featured in our documentary, Escobar's Hitman. Check it out to see if it was worth Lidia risking her life. If you'd like to know more about how we work at RT Documentary, watch this clip with 10 curious facts about us.
