June 2 is considered to be the birthday of Baikonur. This is the first and largest operating spaceport in the world. It was built in the Kazakh desert more than 65 years ago. Construction was the pacification of nature. In winter, it was terribly cold: the sand froze one and a half meters. And in summer, the air heated up to 50 degrees. It was from Baikonur that Yuri Gagarin set off on his first manned flight. But unfortunately, he was never destined to rise into orbit twice.
