@RusEmbMalta Press release 🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks and answers to media questions during a news conference on the outcomes of Russian diplomacy in 2024 (January 14, 2025) *** 💬 FM Sergey #Lavrov: We are living in a historical era of confrontation between those who uphold the fundamental principles of international law <...> which have been formulated, set out and put forth in the most important international document – the UN Charter – and those who are not satisfied with that document, who decided <...> that they could not live in accordance with the wishes of the “political West”, <...> those who oppose multipolarity. President of Russia Vladimir Putin has repeatedly explained the true root causes of the special military operation in Ukraine. We had to begin to repel an attack, a war waged against us by the collective West with the main goal of suppressing competition when Russia re-emerged as its strong rival on the international arena. Their main goal was to weaken our country geopolitically, creating direct military threats to us right on our borders, on Russia’s native territories, <...> in an attempt to slash our strategic potential and devalue it as much as possible. The second reason also has to do with the history of the region, only it was more about the people who have lived on that land for centuries. <...> These people were labelled ‘terrorists’ by the current Ukrainian regime, which came to power through a coup d'etat. And when they refused to accept it, that regime launched an all-out offensive against all things Russian. <...> There has been a revival in efforts to oppose the Western diktat, with emerging economies and new centres of financial power in China, India, ASEAN, the Arab world, and CELAC. This group also includes a resurgent Russia together with its allies from the EAEU, the CIS, and CSTO. This also includes the SCO and #BRICS. The United States does not want to have any competitors anywhere, starting with the energy sector. <...> The United States and its allies have placed sanctions policies at the core of what they do on the international stage, including regarding Russia. This demonstrates their refusal to engage in fair economic competition and their commitment to using unfair, aggressive practices for suppressing their opponents. *** #CollectiveWest The West is intoxicated by its perceived “greatness,” its impunity, and its self-endowed authority to dictate the destinies of peoples worldwide. This reflects arrogance and a disdainful attitude towards the rest of the world. It is yet another brazen assertion that when we speak of “democracy,” it signifies merely one thing – “we do as we please.” <...> It is sheer hypocrisy, dictatorial behaviour, disrespect for the populace. #UN UN Security Council reform is needed. Not all countries that bear special responsibility in the global economy, finance, politics, and military affairs are represented in the UN Security Council. It has been pointed out repeatedly that countries such as India and Brazil have long earned permanent Security Council membership on all counts, as has Africa. #RussiaChina Russia-China partnership is among the key factors in stabilising the international arena and the ongoing processes that are used, among other things, to escalate confrontation and hostility in international affairs, which is what our neighbours from NATO engage in under US guidance. #USA#Ukraine As soon as Donald Trump assumes the presidency and articulates his final stance on Ukrainian matters, we will examine it. <...> The increasing reference to the realities “on the ground” is a development likely to be welcomed. #RussiaSerbia Our relations with Serbia are grounded solely in the interests of the Serbian and Russian peoples, as well as our respective states. Our interests align on the vast majority of issues. These relations are rich with specific agreements and projects, including those in the energy sector, approved by our heads of state, governments, and companies. Read in full. #Outcomes2024

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi hold talks on the sidelines of #ASEAN events 📍 Vientiane, July 25, 2024 *** 🤝 The Officials praised efforts by Russia and China to promote their political dialogue and practical cooperation at a time when the international system has to grapple with a lot of turbulence and uncertainty. They paid special attention to reviewing progress on the agreements resulting from the May 2024 summit meeting in Beijing. The Ministers also discussed cooperation within ASEAN considering the fact that certain countries have become increasingly proactive in setting up restricted bloc-based military and political mechanisms, which are designed to undermine the ASEAN-centric security and stability framework for the Asia-Pacific Region. They praised the new Russia – China + ASEAN Chair format following the first meeting of this kind with Laos on July 25, and said that they hoped that developing this dialogue platform would help forge closer ties across the ASEAN space. 🌐 Sergey Lavrov and Wang Yi stressed the importance for Moscow and Beijing to step up their foreign policy coordination efforts at various international platforms, including the #UN, the #SCO, #APEC, the Group of Twenty and other formats. The Russian minister thanked China for supporting Russia’s #BRICS Chairmanship and reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to assist Beijing as SCO President. The two Ministers went on to discuss ways to implement the concept of building a new security architecture for Eurasia. It has been put forward by Russia as a response to stagnating Euro-Atlantic mechanisms. Sergey Lavrov thanked his counterpart for China’s balanced and consistent position on the Ukraine crisis and welcomed Beijing’s initiatives to promote approaches taking into consideration the interests of all the stakeholders and addressing the causes at the root of this conflict. As usual, the conversation unfolded in a trust-based and constructive manner, which has become a hallmark of the Russia-China strategic partnership. #RussiaChina

📄 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin’s Article for People’s Daily Newspaper, «Russia and China: A Future-Bound Partnership»🇷🇺🇨🇳 March 19, 2023 READ IN FULL (original on Kremlin.ru) 💬 I am glad to seize this opportunity to address the friendly Chinese people in one of the largest and most authoritative world media in advance of the state visit of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to Russia. This landmark event reaffirms the special nature of the Russia-China partnership, which has always been built on mutual trust, respect for each other's sovereignty and interests. We have high expectations for the upcoming talks. We have no doubt that they will give a new powerful impetus to our bilateral cooperation in its entirety. This is also a great opportunity for me to meet with my good old friend with whom we enjoy the warmest relationship. <...> 🤝 The firm friendship between Russia and China is consistently growing stronger for the benefit and in the interest of our countries and peoples. The progress made in the development of bilateral ties is impressive. The Russia-China relations have reached the highest level in their history and are gaining even more strength; they surpass Cold War-time military-political alliances in their quality, with no one to constantly order and no one to constantly obey, without limitations or taboos. We have reached an unprecedented level of trust in our political dialogue, our strategic cooperation has become truly comprehensive in nature and is standing on the brink of a new era. President Xi Jinping and I have met about 40 times and have always found time and opportunity to talk in a variety of official formats as well as at no‑tie events. <...> Unlike some countries claiming hegemony and bringing discord to the global harmony, Russia and China are literally and figuratively building bridges. Last year our border regions were connected by two new bridge crossings over the Amur river, which has been a ”river of friendship“ since time immemorial. Amidst the ”waves and winds“ that sweep the planet, we closely cooperate in international affairs and effectively coordinate our foreign policy positions, counter common threats, and respond to current challenges, standing shoulder to shoulder as a ”rock amid a fast flowing stream.“ We actively promote democratic multilateral structures such as the #SCO and #BRICS, which become more and more authoritative and influential and attract new partners and friends. The work aimed at coordinating the development of the Eurasian Economic Union with the One Belt, One Road Initiative also goes in this vein. ❗️ Our countries, together with like-minded actors, have consistently advocated the shaping of a more just multipolar world order based on international law rather than certain ”rules“ serving the needs of the ”golden billion.“ Russia and China have consistently worked to create an equitable, open and inclusive regional and global security system that is not directed against third countries. In this regard, we note the constructive role of China's Global Security Initiative, which is in line with the Russian approaches in this area. We can feel the geopolitical landscape in the outside world change dramatically. Sticking more stubbornly than ever to its obsolete dogmata and vanishing dominance, the ”Collective West“ is gambling on the fates of entire states and peoples. The US's policy of simultaneously deterring Russia and China, as well as all those who do not bend to the American dictation, is getting ever more fierce and aggressive. The international security and cooperation architecture is being dismantled. Russia has been labelled an ”immediate threat“ and China a ”strategic competitor.“ <...> 🇷🇺🇨🇳 I am convinced that our friendship and partnership based on the strategic choice of the peoples of the two countries will further grow and gain strength for the well-being and prosperity of Russia and China. This visit of the President of the PRC to Russia will undoubtedly contribute to that. #RussiaChina

💬#LAVROV: We are successfully developing relations with a whole range of countries and regional organisations in Africa, Asia (in particular, ASEAN) and Latin America. The overwhelming majority of the countries, obviously, does not support the attempts we have seen in the past years to secure the dominance of the United States and its Western allies on the international arena through force, illegitimate sanctions, ultimatums, blackmail and threats. Nobody likes it. 🔹 I believe that the historical process has already handed down the verdict. Yes, it will be a long historical era of establishing genuine multi-polarity. The West will put up serious resistance. We can already see it. 🔹 Our Western colleagues are demanding that the developing countries across all continents join the anti-Russia sanctions and break off contacts with Russia. These attempts are futile. Aside from votes in a number of international organisations, achieved by dishonest means, these vain attempts of our Western colleagues have not been able to take any tangible shape. 🔹From now on, we will proceed from this realisation as we build our foreign policy, relying only on the partnerships that have proven to be with people who are capable of negotiating, keeping their word and not trying to benefit from infringing on the interests of others. 🔹Our motto is the balance of interests. This balance is the core of our foreign policy. It is the only approach that has prospects in international affairs.

The two Ministers share the view that modern neo-colonialist practices are unacceptable and have a destructive effect on most countries around the world and international relations in general.
