"I'll never leave him. He told us so many times to go to Russia, to my aunt's, but I refused to go anywhere. I'm not going anywhere without him," says Irina, whose husband Sergey joined the Donbass militia 7 years ago, after their home was hit by Ukrainian shelling. Since then, it has been shelled almost daily. Irina and her kids are accustomed to the sound of explosions and every day, they risk their lives when they go outside.
But as long as Sergey has the possibility of coming home once in a while, the family will remain in Donetsk and won’t abandon their home. Watch the premiere to learn more about their story and those of other families who support each other amidst any hardship.

'I said I'd get back on my feet, I'd be back. And I won't just return, but stand with the guys, take up arms, and continue to bring this victory closer, for which so many people have died, both soldiers and civilians', says Alias Avidzba, an Abkhaz volunteer in Donbass. As a child, Alias survived the war in Abkhazia. To honour the memory of those who gave their lives for his country, he joined the Special Military Operation to protect civilians from Ukrainian nationalists. Tune in to our premiere to discover Alias's story and those of other Donbass defenders. Despite severe injuries they found the strength to rebuild their lives and continue supporting others.

From playing music on stage to the frontlines of a raging conflict – it’s not the easiest move to make!
Musicians and singers who found themselves on the frontlines of the Donbass region have joined DPR forces to fight against neo-Nazism. Musician Victor Petenko, who played the drums in the Donetsk philharmonic, was conscripted into the military in February 2022. His squad, comprising only musicians, received codenames based on their instruments. Vocalist Francois Maud d'Émé, volunteered to join the Donbass militia to protect his new home.
Despite the ongoing conflict, their colleagues continue to give concerts to uplift civilians and wounded soldiers in hospitals. The question remains: how do they adapt to their new roles?

On the UN SC #Arria meeting “Crimes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the nationalist battalions” (New York, August 13, 2024)
Key points:
🔹 The unconstitutional coup-d’état in Ukraine of 2014 resulted in an upsurge in nationalist organizations. The new authorities openly associated themselves with Ukrainian nationalist organizations, which collaborated with German fascists.
🔹 In the 8 years that followed residents of #Donbass, who did not accept this illegitimate nationalist government, became “second-class” people to new authorities.
🔹In June, Russia made a very generous negotiation proposal to Ukraine, given its desperate situation on the frontline - the Zelensky regime chose escalation and war through incursion into a peaceful Russian region. This is a fatal mistake that will be desperately regretted by Ukraine later. But the choice has been made.
Full video of the meeting is available here:

✍️The Legal Front of Memory
Key talking points:
• Combating manifestations of racism, xenophobia, aggressive nationalism and neo-Nazism, and countering attempts to rewrite history and distort the outcomes of #WWII are among Russia’s priorities on the human rights track.
• Today we see increasingly frequent attempts to rewrite the history and results of WWII, to erase the memory of heroic anti-fascist fighters, to destroy monuments built in their honour, and to ban the wearing of military decorations that are strongly associated with Victory.
• History is being falsified in an openly hostile manner, which includes glorifying Nazi collaborators and disrespecting the memory of Soviet soldiers and civilians who died in the fight against fascism, questioning the Red Army’s liberation mission in Eastern Europe <...> The decisions of the Yalta and Potsdam conferences and the Nuremberg Tribunal verdicts are also being questioned.
• This tendency to rewrite history and glorify Nazi henchmen has become part of the Kiev regime’s state ideology and policy. The neo-Nazi elites are trying to cement Ukraine’s independence by denying its Soviet past, praising the Waffen-SS Galicia Division <...>
• In line with efforts to combat the glorification of Nazism and the distortion of history, every year since 2005, Russia has submitted a resolution on combatting glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, to the UN General Assembly. On December 17, 2024, during the plenary session of the 79th #UNGA in New York, 119 countries voted in support of this document.
• Russia and a group of like-minded countries submitted a draft resolution on the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War IIto the ongoing 79th UN General Assembly, which was adopted on March 4. <...> Our partners’ unified stance on this matter constitutes a substantive contribution to countering the rewriting of history.
• It is a matter of principle for us that the international community recognise the crimes perpetrated by the Nazis in the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War as the genocide of the Soviet people.
• The actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Nazi-affiliated armed groups reveal signs of genocidal intent. They wanted to eliminate Russians and Russian speakers in #Donbass <...>, adepts of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and people in this region in general as an ethnic, religious and national entity.
• Ukraine initiated proceedings in the UN International Court of Justice in February 2022, right after the start of the special military operation, as per the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. However, it turned to the Kiev regime’s disadvantage.
• The International Court of Justice issued its preliminary objections under this case on February 2, 2024. In this document, it rejected all the claims made by Ukraine alleging that Russia violated the Convention. The court went on to rule that further proceedings will focus on whether Ukraine itself committed acts of genocide in Donbass. Therefore, the Kiev regime filed the lawsuit only to become a defendant in this case.
• On November 18, 2024, Russia submitted its main pleading document, the Counter Memorandum, as part of these proceedings. In fact, this is the first time since the Nuremberg Trials that Russia de facto assumed the role of the prosecution in an international tribunal. But there are even more parallels with the Nuremberg Trials — just as during these trials, we are dealing with a Nazi regime which was targeting civilians with mass atrocities on racial, ethnic and national grounds.

🎥 Town of Novolugansk: Rebuilding Life After War
In this video, released as part of the "Realities of War" series, we travel to the town of Novolugansk, located in the Donbass region. Ahead of May 9th, a solemn ceremony was held here to unveil the restored monument dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, erected at a mass grave where 98 Soviet soldiers are buried.
Despite the fact that this region has long been in an active combat zone, today extensive efforts are underway to restore infrastructure and residential buildings. Thanks to the support of the Chukotka Autonomous Region, electricity, water supply, roofs of apartment buildings, and other vital facilities have already been restored.
We will see how local residents are preparing for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. We’ll also learn how simple yet effective solutions, such as anti-drone nets, help save lives.
The video also shows how the difficult situation in the town is gradually improving: homes are being rebuilt, new facilities are under construction, and life is slowly returning to normalcy. However, the scars of war are still visible everywhere — from destroyed buildings to improvised cemeteries where residents buried their loved ones during hard times.
This is a story of courage, hope, and revival. We believe that the front will continue to advance, and peace will fully return to this long-suffering region.
