The idea of the Metaverse was first voiced in 1992 by Neil Stevenson... At the moment, it is utopian, the reason for this is a lot of economic and technological problems, but various parallel eco-systems based on virtual reality will begin to appear. They will serve as a means of recreation and aesthetic experiences; a gaming or trading element, along with new mechanisms of mediated communication, will serve as the basis for connecting the real and virtual worlds. The role of the artist in these circumstances remains unchanged - it is to make what is happening in the virtual world convincing and interesting.
