The Brian Boru Harp was once in the possession of King Henry VIII. He identified it as property of Donnchadh O’Brien, 'sixth in descent from the great hero of Clontarf.'

The earliest depictions of the Celtic harp are found on 8th c. stone relics in Scotland, suggesting the harp was a Pictish innovation.
