County Louth is named after Lugh, a god, hero, and king of the ancient Irish. Historically, the placename has had various spellings: 'Lugmad', 'Lughmhaigh', & 'Lughmhadh'. Lú is the modern simplified form. [Castle Roche, Dundalk]
